Kerala is synonymous for its development in the rural areas.In this regard local bodies plays an important role.In kerala almost one thousand village panchayat is formed,besides hundreds of Muncipalities plus coorporations.These bodies contributed much in shaping a good arena of constitutional awareness among the people.
Now a days these local bodies implements the major projects conceived by the government.These include Birth and Death Registrations,Marriage Registrations,public works.NREGS is one of the major policies of the government established through local bodies which guarntees 100 days work for people.They also perform facilities for the structural functioning of Schools,offices etc
Mid-day meal program is intialised through the local bodies.It also supports for the development of agricultre and the allied activities.Is supports the production of Flora and fauna locally.Many social relief activities through local self bodies are given by the government such as widow pension,agricultural pensions etc.
